Phygelius

Sometimes sold as "Cape Fuchsias", although I do not think they have any relationship, these South African plants have been wonderful in the garden over the last few years. They are very hardy and flower from late May to October. I treat these plants like hardy Fuchsias leaving the top growth on in winter and cutting them back to near the ground in spring each year. This helps to keep them to a manageable size as I understand that if left unchecked, in a mild climate, they can grow very large. Propagation is easy as the plants send out underground shoots that I dig up with attached roots and plant in a pot in the cold frame
